The last few weeks I’ve been shooting different portrait sessions and taking out my film camera (Canon EOS 3) with me on to grab a couple of frames.
Although I love digital and will continue to always shoot it, I’m learning a lot more shooting film .. to slow down, take my time, wait for the shot and really study my composition. But also it allows me to experiment and try new things. It’s a lot of fun, not knowing what the results will be and then waiting for the lab to return the images in the hope that you nailed a few :)
Film Photography geeks: B&W film is Ilford Delta 400 (the roll I used expired in June 2006) and the Colour film is Kodak Portra 400. Processed and scanned by Richard’s Photo Lab, no additional retouching.
Here are some of the results.
First some from the mean streets of London ..

Here’s a shot my friend Lacy Dagerath took of me when she visited london. Oh, she’s a wicked photographer in Texas.. you should check her out here.

I usually do smile, honest :)
Next some of my recent images from some portrait sessions around London

Radness man! I bet the shipping to richards was a bugger!
I love the second to last shot. They’re all good, but I really love the composition and use of light and shade in that one. Love how they’re framed by the dark area and then the sky above. Really nice!

Loving the tones. Nothing like film :) When looking at the photo of you, I think of Tyra Banks saying “FIERCE”. :D
