Bloedel Conservatory Elopement Wedding in Queen Elizabeth Park

A Bloedel Conservatory Wedding

I love weddings at Bloedel Conservatory and Stephanie and Paul’s elopement style wedding in Queen Elizabeth Park was a great way to kick off documenting my first wedding ceremony within Bloedel. An amazing location for any type of wedding, big or small!

As soon as you enter, the warmth and humidity immediately win you over. The chirping of birds, the tropical views, the huge dome above your head, the beads of moisture seen on the various trees and plants. You’re no longer in Vancouver .. you’re in a dream.

And this dream was Stephanie and Paul’s wedding day.

For Stephanie and Paul, the most important part of this wedding was family. They wanted to keep things intimate, starting things off with a first look and then right into the ceremony. They wanted their grandparents present through it all. Stephanie’s brother gave a beautiful speech and after the ceremony we took portraits within Bloedel. There are so many incredible areas to shoot within and I had a dream playing with the light inside. It really made for some of my best black and white images which I’m most proud of.

Outside we took advantage of the views of Vancouver and the city scape, using the dome as a backdrop too.

Huge thanks to Ceres Lee who was an incredible wedding officiant on the day, as well as guitarist Alec Pearson who played some really beautiful music throughout the ceremony.

It was an honour to jam with Adam Buchanan from Rivir Sawyer Films. Our styles blend perfectly together and I’m excited to document more weddings with Adam in the future. You can see his video here.

For now, here’s Stephanie and Paul’s small, elopement style wedding at Bloedel Conservatory …

I caught up with Stephanie and Paul recently and they shared the following with me.

Stephanie’s advice for future couples on planning their wedding day / elopement ..

Keep it as small and as uncomplicated as possible. Your wedding or elopement is all about the things that are most important to you and that you will want to remember for years to come.

No one, including yourself, will remember the details that seemed so important to get perfect when you were planning your wedding. All you, and everyone else, will remember is how happy you were and how great it was to have your favourite people there to celebrate with you.

On why it was important for Stephanie and Paul to get an album for their memories

To capture the highlights of our day and especially to showcase your beautiful work! (Paul seriously loved all the work you showed us at the wedding show and our meeting, so an album was non-negotiable and one of the main reasons we chose you.)-

On what they loved most about Bloedel Conservatory ..

We loved how intimate and private Bloedel Conservatory was, we loved that it was indoors so our guests would be comfortable even if it was raining outside since it was fall, and we loved most of all that we were in such a serene and natural setting. My grandma loves flowers and taking photos, and it gave me such joy to see her enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

On having their guide dog in attendance ..

Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS) breeds and trains assistance dogs for mobility, PTSD, and hearing assistance, and to support professionals in our community (teachers, police forces, psychologists, etc.). As a raiser or sitter, we ensure a future service dog will be able to maintain its skills and support its client in any situation it may encounter, whether it is a trip to the grocery store, a movie theatre, or a wedding! Our first dog has been placed with a client and we continue to volunteer with the organization. It has been a very rewarding experience to raise and train a dog for the organization.

On their favourite memory from their wedding day ..

To be honest, it was all a bit of a blur and stressful in the moment. Looking back though, our officiant did a great job in crafting a memorable and meaningful ceremony for us so that we could really be present and enjoy the moment.

And some great advice for future couples in preparation of their wedding day ..

Delegate tasks, allow more time than you think you’ll need for photos, and don’t try to do too much. Go with your gut for your vendors. Good vendors will make everything go so smoothly.

Thank you Stephanie and Paul for choosing me to be a part of your day!
